For this project, I have collaborated with the 17th Istanbul Biennial and Soli, a Turkish new-generation
journal of neighbourhoods, to dig into urban culture, people stories, and sociocultural dynamics.
There were six neighbourhoods to host the 17th Istanbul Biennial: Balat, Çemberlitaş, Sıraselviler, Tophane, Yeldeğirmeni, and Zeytinburnu. Whereas the viewers we can wander the city we live in as travelers.

There were six neighbourhoods to host the 17th Istanbul Biennial: Balat, Çemberlitaş, Sıraselviler, Tophane, Yeldeğirmeni, and Zeytinburnu. Whereas the viewers we can wander the city we live in as travelers.
Thus, Soli curated special maps of these neighbourhoods to be used by the participants and
viewers of the Biennial, and I designed the maps that included the locations of artisan and artist workshops, streets, parks, restaurants, shops, and cultural centers for people to better understand and read the neighbourhoods and become a participant in their everyday culture.
While I created a coherent visual style that would fit the general modern and simplistic concept of the Biennial‘s modern visual identity and that represents the unifying aspect of the people of Istanbul, I also used different typographies and colors with respect to these neighbourhoods’ distinct cultural and historical characteristics. Therefore, expanding people’s experience beyond the locations where the Biennial took place to a wider encounter in the district.
